Ενδέκατο μάθημα (=lesson 11)

Ενδέκατο μάθημα (=lesson 11)

Ενεστώτας/Present tense
First group: includes verbs in –ω (without accent mark).
            Verbs ending in –εύω.
We read the epsilon-ipsilon combination with two different ways, like
ef or ev. It depends on the following letter of the word. We read the –ευ
            like ev when the following letter of the word is β, γ, δ, ζ, λ, μ, ν, ρ or a
vowel. As the endings of first group verbs begin with a vowel (-ω, -εις, -ει,
-ουμε, -ετε, -ουν/-ουνε), we always read the –ευ like ev.

            εγώ δουλέυω
            εσύ δουλεύεις
            αυτός/ αυτή/ αυτό δουλεύει
            εμείς δουλεύουμε
            εσείς δουλεύετε
            αυτοί/ αυτές/ αυτά δουλεύουν/ δουλεύουνε

Some important verbs ending in –εύω:
            δουλεύω: I work
            μαγειρεύω: I cook
            χορεύω: I dance
            ψαρεύω: I fish
            μπερδεύω: I entangle, involve, confuse
            φυτεύω: I plant
κλαδεύω: I prune, I trim, clip
ανακατεύω: I mix, mingle, blend, stir, jumble
μαζεύω: I gather, collect, pick up
            λατρεύω: I adore, worship
κοροϊδεύω: I mock, laugh at, kid

            αγναντεύω: I watch, gaze
            μαντεύω: I predict, guess

Με μπερδεύουν αυτά τα ρήματα (these verbs are confusing me).
Πιστεύω στον Θεό (I believe in God).
Πιστεύω στις ικανότητές σου (I believe in your abilities).
Μαντεύω το μέλλον (I tell/ predict the future).
            Μαζεύω λουλούδια (I gather flowers).
            Μαζεύω γραμματόσημα (I collect stamps).
            Μαζεύω χρήματα (I collect money).
Γιατί με κοροϊδεύεις; (Why are you laughing at me?)
Κουρεύω το γκαζόν (Ι mow the lawn).
            Tη λατρεύει (He adores her).
Λατρεύω τον Θεό (I worship God).

All the active first group verbs ending in –evo are written with –ευ. There
is only one exception, the verb κλέβω (=I steal, swipe, filch, rob,
kidnap) which is written with –B, β.
